Quoi de mieux pour commencer ce mois de la Fantasy qu’un petit webtoon pas piqué des hannetons ! J’ai découvert Diner for Adas un peu par hasard en me perdant sur l’appli Webtoon… comme quoi il est important d’errer de temps en temps ! Parce que franchement, c’est une série très chouette !
Alors que quelques membres d’une équipe de foot universitaire cherchent un endroit où se poser, Amox, l’un des footballeurs, leur propose de tester le Gallinita Roja. Si personne n’avait remarqué ce diner avant, et si les trois amis d’Amox ne se rendent compte qu’il est plein qu’une fois le blondinet énonçant l’évidence… Bah, c’est juste la fatigue post entraînement. Évidemment. Moui.
Voyez-vous, mise à part Bri, la petite serveuse humaine - qui a des plumes ceci dit - et nos 4 tartampions, tous les autres clients sont des Ayakashi, ou Adas. Bref, des créatures surnaturelles !
Si Amox est un flirteur sans pareil et a le contact facile, Bri est brute de décoffrage. On découvre cependant dès le début que la jeune femme a un sens aigu des responsabilités et qu’elle a une abnégation certaine : si elle se retrouve serveuse à la Gallinita Roja, c’est parce qu’on lui a fourbement refilé une dette maudite. Sous la forme d’un style cocotte. Elle doit donc soit rembourser les quelques 150 000 sous, soit transmettre la malédiction à une autre victime. Bri décide alors d’éponger la dette plutôt que de condamner quelqu’un d’autre.
Heureusement pour elle, Amox ne sait pas du tout gérer ses impulsions. Il décide donc de l’aider à rembourser sa dette en travaillant avec elle. Parce qu’il est gentil. Voilà. Pas parce qu’il a un énorme crush sur elle. Ou qu’il y a un trauma sous-jacent qui expliquerait aussi sa volonté d’aider une personne maudite.
En plus d’avoir une histoire très chouette, les graphismes sont justes trop beaux et tout mimi. Les couleurs sont très jolies et chatoyantes. J’aime beaucoup le charadesign et la diversité des personnages ! Le trait rend vraiment justice à l’intrigue.
En parlant d’intrigue, celle-ci est facile à suivre : le cadre et les personnages sont présentés de manière très fluide dès le début, pour ensuite laisser place au fil rouge. Lorsque l’histoire se complexifie et se diversifie, de nouveaux personnages entrent en scène. Chacun a le temps d’être bien mis en avant, avec une sous-intrigue spécifique pour les introduire. C’est très appréciable, parce que cela permet de vraiment s’attacher aux personnages secondaires, tout en ne se perdant pas entre tout le monde.
Les Ichigorat - elles sont deux derrière ce webtoon ! - s’inspirent beaucoup du folklore de l’Amérique latine pour ses créatures surnaturelles, tout en expliquant, à la fin de certains chapitres, d’où vient telle ou telle référence. C’est toujours très intéressant à lire, et c’est assez court pour ne pas nous couper dans la lecture tout en nous apprenant des choses !
De même, puisqu’elles sont toutes deux de nationalités différentes, cela se retrouve beaucoup dans leurs personnages. En effet, Amox est mexicain : il utilise nombre d’interjections en espagnol (et un Pundejo bien placé subtilement traduit par “idiot”) et est de culture latine. Bri elle est issue de parents japonais et brésiliens. Elle glisse surtout vers le japonais à l’oral et, parce qu’elle a grandi au sein d’un quartier japonisant, elle est très influencée par cette partie-là de son héritage.
